Three of a family were brutally beaten up their relatives and associates on Wednesday morning, in east Delhi’s Gokalpuri. One of the brothers is stated to be critical.
‘Around a dozen persons attacked dairy owner Santarpal, 45, around 6 am in Gokalpuri,’ said a police officer. The accused, Omi, Ashok, Devendra, Kamal, Sonu, Anuj and Arup, were among others who launched the attack and all of them live the neighbourhood.
One of the victims, Sanjay, 35, was on his way to deliver milk on a motorcycle around 6.30 am when a group of men armed with firearms and sticks waylaid him at some distance from his Ganga Vihar house and allegedly beat him up.
The accused then reached Sanjay’s dairy and attacked his elder brother Brijpal, 50, with sticks and bricks. Brijpal was hit in the head and the face.
‘My father Santarpal was at home, clueless about the attacks, when a neighbour came rushing and told him about it. As soon as my father stepped out of the house, the assailants attacked him as well. When he resisted, one of them opened fire and the bullet hit him in the leg. Another bullet grazed past him. We then made a PCR call and police took them to hospital,’ said Santarpal’s third son Yogesh.
According to the sources, Omi had some tiff with Santarpal, after which the accused wanted to take revenge. He had arrived fully prepared. The injured are under treatment at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.
According to the police, the two parties have been involved in violent clashes earlier as well. ‘The two parties clashed over a month ago and cases were registered. Ashok, Omi and Kamal were called to the police station for questioning, but no arrests have been made so far,’ said a senior police official.
