Three people received critical injuries after an unidentified policeman beat up a motorcycle rider with a stick, making him lose balance and ram the vehicle into a pole, on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 2.15 pm in front of the cremation ground in Nizamuddin area of south-east district. According to Jatin Vijhani, the complainant, he along with his two friends were riding on a motorcycle and going towards India Gate. Prashant was riding the bike and Jatin was sitting in between him and Gagan.
Mid-way, two policemen on a bike came and the pillion rider swung at Gagan with a stick. As a result, Prashant lost control on the bike and rammed into a pole. Jatin and Gagan fell on the ground. The policemen then fled from the spot. Two of their friends, who were following them on another bike, then informed the local police rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. All three were taken to AIIMS Trauma centre, and Prashant and Gagan were shifted to ICU.
In the evening, an eyewitness reached the police station and said she could identify the two cops. A case has been registered.
