3 held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1 crore

The accused were intercepted by customs officials after their arrival from Sharjah here on Sunday. On detailed examination of their baggage, gold bars weighing 3.932 kg was recovered, a customs official said.

The value of the recovered gold is Rs one crore, he said. The trio were arrested and the gold was seized, the official added.

Last week, customs officials had arrested four persons for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold worth about Rs 1.4 crore at the airport.

Of the four held, three had arrived here from Dubai while one from Afghanistan. They were intercepted by the customs officials soon after their arrival. On detailed examination of their baggage, gold bars, wires, stripes and plates weighing 5.5 kg were recovered, the officials said. The recovered gold was seized and passengers were held, the official said, adding total value of the yellow metal is about Rs 1.4 crore.
