3 die in rain-related incidents in T’gana; Army deployed in Hyd

According to an IMD report, a low pressure area lies over Telangana, south Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha region.
In Telangana’s Medak district, three persons lost their lives in separate rain-related incidents since last night, while four columns of Army have been deployed in rain-affected areas of Hyderabad and neighbouring Ranga Reddy district.
The state government has approached Indian Air Force to rescue 21 civilians stranded in Medak district.
“Three Chetak helicopters of the Indian Air Force have been assigned the task to rescue the stranded people. Two rescue attempts were made, but unfortunately aborted due to heavy rains in the area,” a release said.
The weatherman has predicted “heavy to very heavy” rains in isolated places of the state. Some of the low lying areas in Hyderabad are still cut off from the rest of the city.
Following an instruction from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, a 60-member National Disaster Response Force team has been kept on the standby in the city for rescue operations.
With heavy rains predicted for the next three days in Andhra Pradesh, the Water Resources Department is maintaining a steady level of 30 TMC ft of water in the K L Rao Sagar reservoir on river Krishna, up stream the Prakasam Barrage.
While 1.62 lakh cusecs water is flowing into the K L Rao Sagar reservoir, 1.51 lakh cusecs is being let out. But inflow into Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada has reduced to around 50,000 cusecs. Train services on Secunderabad-Guntur section of South Central Railway remained suspended for the third day on Saturday.
With the southwest monsoon active over the state, rain-soaked Odisha is likely to receive further downpour in the northern parts of the till Sunday due to a well marked low pressure area.
Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district received 10 cm rains, followed by Tensa and Panposh (Sundargarh district), Kirmira and Laikera (Jharsuguda district) each receiving 7 cm, and Chandbali in Bhadrak district recording 5 cm rainfall.
Heavy to very heavy rains occurred at a few places over Konkan region and Goa and at isolated places over Marathwada region. Heavy rains occurred at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka.
A few places in Himachal Pradesh received scattered rains while the weather remained dry in rest of the state inspite of overcast condition, causing marginal rise in mercury.
Light to moderate rainfall occurred at a few places in northern Bihar, even as humidity remained high in parts of the state. Humidity level was highest in Purnea at 93 per cent, while Patna, which received 5 mm rainfall recorded 83 per cent humidity.
