3 arrested for murder of gang leader

Almost two weeks after an alleged leader of a chain snatching gang was shot dead, police have arrested three members of the racket in connection with the murder.
Mohd Alam (26), Nadim (19) and Rizwan (20) were arrested on August 15 in connection with the killing of Ashraf, a resident of Gokulpuri area here. Ashraf’s body was found near Nala Bhagirathi Vihar area here on 5 August.
The trio claimed that Ashraf was killed when Mohd Alam ‘accidentally’ fired from his country made pistol, police said. According to the police, on August 5, the gang was on its way to commit a robbery and on a motorcycle. When they were near Iron bridge of Seelampur, Mohd Alam accidentally fired his ‘desi katta’ and a bullet hit Ashraf, who was sitting between the rider Nadim and him.
The bullet penetrated Ashraf’s head and he died on the spot.
