2G scam case: CBI court reserves order on Loop telecom plea

A CBI court in Delhi reserved the order on plea of Loop Telecom, an accused in 2G scam, seeking the settlement of matter in Lok Adalat, after the defence counsel said that there offense is compoundable.

A special CBI judge OP Saini has fixed the matter for 22 March to order on a plea filed by Loop Telecom Limited for settlement in a case arising out of the 2G scam probe.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Loop Telecom Ltd (LTL), argued that the company was facing trial for the alleged offence under section 420 (cheating) read with 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and these offences are compoundable. ‘If the Department of Telecom (DoT) does not have a serious objection and they leave the matter to the court, then an attempt should be made and if it is settled it is fine otherwise it will come up before the court again,’ said Rohtagi.

The plea was filed after LTL, chargesheeted by CBI along with promoters of Essar Group and Loop Telecom.
