2G case: Anil Ambani denies knowledge about Swan Telecom

Hopes of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were dashed on Thursday when Anil Ambani, who deposed as a prosecution witness in the 2G scam case, resiled from a statement during the probe. In reply to most of the questions, his stock reply to most of the questions was ‘I do not recall’ and CBI had to cross-examine its own witness in the court.

The special court hearing the 2G scam case had allowed the plea of CBI for summoning Anil Ambani, Tina Ambani and 11 others as prosecution witness to help throwing light on alleged investment of over Rs 990 crore by his group companies in Swan Telecom.

Anil Ambani, during his four-hour long deposition including lunch break, denied that Swan Telecom was a front company of his group RADAG for securing the precious radiowaves. He also denied handing over any note to the CBI officer. He said that he had visited CBI in February 2011 but did not hand over any note to the CBI officer.

When the court asked him if he was under any threat, pressure or coercion today from any quarter, Anil Ambani said, ‘I am not under any threat, pressure or coercion.’

‘Yes sir, I am making my statement voluntarily and as per my own free will,’ Ambani told the judge.
