Portion of a first floor building collapsed killing three persons including a 28-year-old woman, her five-year-old son and her two-year-old daughter in West Delhi’s Mohan Garden area of Uttam Nagar area in the wee hours of Monday. In the tragic incident, two buffaloes also died while six others are seriously injured.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Manju (26), Daksh (5) and Tanu (2). On the other hand, Manju’s husband, Sushil, who was also trapped in the debris survived with grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Police said that the incident took place around 2.00 am. Recalling the incident, neighbors said that they woke up to a booming sound after which they rushed out of their houses and saw that the building had collapsed. One of the neighbour said: “It sounded like an earthquake. We rushed out of our houses and we saw that Sushil’s house had collapsed.”
“We rushed to their house and saw that there were a lot of naked wires jutting out of the debris. So we decided to cut the electrical connections to the house first. Then we proceeded to remove the debris,” said another neighbour.
According to the police, Sushil, a local milkman, stayed with his family in Mohan Garden area. His family owned around 12 buffaloes that were kept in a shed at the ground floor of the house. When the first floor of their building collapsed, a portion of the debris also fell on the shed trapping the buffaloes. Two buffaloes were killed while around six of them were injured.
Meanwhile, neighbours claimed that Sushil had somehow managed to escape as he came out of the house. Although he had sustained injuries on his stomach, yet, instead of seeking medical help, he started clearing the debris to rescue his wife and children.
Public Works Department (PWD) minster Satyendar Jain visited the spot to evaluate the overall situation. Apart from Jain, BJP leader Satish Upadhyay, AAP MLA of the area, Mahendra Yadav also paid a visit to the spot.
