Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of two sisters in East Delhi’s Khichripur area within a span of 24 hours. The accused, Tahir, was an auto-rickshaw driver who was in a relationship with Poonam, one of the sisters found lying dead in their ground floor rented accommodation. Police said that he confessed to killing both the sisters.
According to the police, they received a call at around 10.45 am on Friday morning when one of Poonam’s friends went to her house. On finding the door latched from outside, she went in and saw both Poonam and her younger sister, Swati lying with froth coming out from their mouth. She raised an alarm and alerted the neighbours. The bodies were then taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.
During interrogation, Tahir revealed that he was in a relationship with Poonam. However, he saw her once with another man and confronted her. She then said that they
have broken off. To avenge his insult, he murdered her.
“It was through technical surveillance and local intelligence that we zeroed down on Tahir. We have taken him under judicial custody. Further investigation is still on,” said Bhairon Singh Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East).
