The incident was reported on early Thursday morning when the parents of the deceased (Kanika) made a call to the police control room. According to police, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday a heated argument took place between Kanika and her husband (Nitin). Thereafter, Kanika locked herself in the room.
When Nitin (28) knocked the door next morning, he got no response from inside. With the help of his parents he managed to broke open the door and found Kanika hanging from the ceiling fan. Kanika was a bank manager in a nationalised bank Bikaji Kama Place in south Delhi.
The police have not found any suicide note from her possession. Meanwhile the parents of the deceased told police that soon after their daughter’s marriage she was being harassed by her husband and in-laws on pity issues.
They further said that Kanika was not even allowed to visit her paternal home. ‘She was forced to not to continue her relationship with her parents and brother’, a police officer quoting victim’s father statement said.
A case has been registered at RK Puram police station. The case has been transferred to sub-divisional magistrate for further investigation. ‘The body has been given to her family. We are waiting for post-mortem reports before arriving to any conclusion,’ the police officer said.
Meanwhile, no arrest has been made in the case. The police is questioning her husband and in-laws.
Nitin works as an Assistant General Manager at Reserve Bank of India. The couple got married on 26 February 2012. The couple have a one year old son.
