250 houses gutted

More than 250 jhuggis were gutted when a fire broke in a heap of garbage on the outskirts of Kherki Dhaula village on Tuesday. No one was reported to be injured in the incident.

According to the Gurgaon Fire Department, the fire broke out in the heap of garbage near a cluster of jhuggis on the outskirts of Kherki Dhaula village around noon. Soon the fire spread to the jhuggis. At this a call was made to the Police Control Room and the Fire Department. It took seven fire tenders more than five hours to douse the flames. “As soon as we received the call, we dispatched a fire tender from the Manesar sub-station. Subsequently, two fire tenders each from Sector 37 and Sector 29 fire stations also reached the spot. The fire was doused at around 5 pm. A fire tender has been kept stationed at the spot for any emergency,” said Gurgaon Senior Fire Service Officer I S Kashyap.

Kashyap said that the cause of fire was not immediately known but it could have been caused due to high temperatures. “Sometime, the pieces of glass or some metal get heated up due to high temperature and cause fire,” said Kashyap.

The police officers said that they had visited the site. “Everything is under control and there is no casualty,” said Hawa Singh, PRO of Gurgaon police.

Two persons have been killed in 96 cases of fire in Gurgaon till February 16 this year.
