2.5 lakh to be brought under kerosene free scheme by 2014

Haroon Yusuf, the minister for food and civil suppiles claimed  on Monday that about 48,000 poor people are already brought under kerosene free Delhi scheme and that the government has fixed a target of 2.5 lakh more to be brought under the scheme by next August-September.

According to him, the Delhi government earmarked Rs 40 crore for 2013-2014.

Under a kerosene free scheme, the Delhi government will be providing free LPG connection and a stove.

He further said that AnnaShree Yojna will cover 59,000 beneficiaries under the scheme financial assistance of Rs 600 will be provided.

‘The Delhi government has always been taking initiatives to assist more and more vulnerable households and other poor families to uplift them and make their lives better,’ said Yusuf.

The minister said the government has decided to also provide widows with capital  benefits under this scheme. Nearly one lakh widows are getting a pension of Rs 1,500 per month from  the social welfare department. Under the present scheme, these widows will also be eligible for an additional  Rs 600 per month. This is attached to the base scheme, the first food safety plan.  

According to Yusuf, this his plan was added to the base amount of cash transferred directly to the beneficiaries of the account.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit thanked Haroon Yusuf and the food and civil supplies deparment for the success of Annashree Yojana. The plan, she claimed, has been a real boon to the needy families.

A comprehensive survey was done to identify the beneficiaries of the plan.  The recommendations of the MLAs concerned will also be taken into consideration, she said. A card under the Dilli Annashree Yojna will be provided to the beneficiaries with a photograph to prevent any misuse.
