2,400 exhibitors to participate in handicrafts fair in capital

As many as 2,400 exhibitors will showcase their products like decorative, houseware and accessories at a handicrafts fair starting 15 October and is expected is to attract over 5,000 global buyers.

The four-day-long Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF)-Autumn 2012, organised by the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), would be held under one-roof spread over an area of 100,000 square meters, the council said in a statement.

The exhibition would be a business-to-business fair, it said. ‘About 2,400 exhibitors from 28 states will display their eco-friendly products and other items like decorative, giftware, furniture, furnishings, kitchenware and fashion accessories,’ it said.

Besides, more than 5,000 overseas buyers from 40 countries, including the US, the UK, Australia, China and Germany, are expected at the fair to source their requirements, the EPCH said.

The focus will be mainly on eco-friendly products made out of different raw-material base like wood, metal, cane, bamboo, jute and vegetable dyes, it added.

The IHGF is being held bi-annually in the months of February and October known as IHGF-Spring and IHGF-Autumn, respectively.

During April-August 2012, India’s handicrafts exports rose by 9.7 per cent to USD 1.2 billion compared to the same period last year.

The handicrafts sector employs one million people. Moradabad, Jaipur, Saharanpur and Jodhpur are the major handicraft hubs in the country catering to global markets.
