A 24-year-old resident of Indore was found strangled to death outside a guest house near New Delhi Railway Station. Preliminary investigation suggests that he was robbed before killing. The accused are yet to be identified.
The victim has been identified as Raunak Bansal. According to the police, his identity was established through a flight ticket found near his body. It was also learnt that he reached Delhi on Thursday. His family in Indore has been informed about his demise.
A call was received by the police control room informing of an unidentified man lying near Sainik Rest house. Immediately, a team reached the spot and started the probe. “The victim was found lying on his side. There were injury marks on his cheeks and he was bleeding from his nose and mouth. A towel was found wound around his neck. He had been strangled using that towel,” a police officer privy to investigation said.
The official added that when his family was contacted they said that Bansal used to visit Delhi very often and used to stay there for a few days. He was unemployed at the time of his death. According to the e-ticket found under his body, it was learnt that Bansal had come to Delhi by a Jet Airways flight on Thursday. His family told the police that he was carrying around Rs one lakh in cash. It is being suspected that he was killed for resisting a robbery bid. Police said that the victim was apparently killed elsewhere and later his body was dragged into the bushes of the isolated spot near the Sainik Resthouse. The matter is being investigated.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
