A 24-year-old doctor, practising at a private hospital in Ghaziabad, said on Monday that she had been allegedly molested by a maintenance staff of the hospital. The police said that the incident happened when the victim was on duty and the accused tried to molest her sexually. When the victim raised an alarm, he tried to strangle her before fleeing from the hospital. A case has been registered under various sections and the accused has been arrested.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 3 am at Santosh Medical College in Shihani Gate area in Ghaziabad, when the lady doctor, who is also pursuing her MD from the same institute, was on duty. When the victim reached one of the rooms at the sixth floor, a sweeper, identified as Ravi Kumar (20), appeared before her and tried to overpower her with the motive of rape.
The woman immediately resisted the attempt and raised an alarm. The sweeper then unsuccessfully tried to strangulate her but had to escape hurriedly in fear of being caught. As the matter came to light, a PCR call was made immediately.
The hospital authority and the victim’s family members lodged a complaint against Ravi, who is a native of Baghpat and had recently been employed at the hospital.
Later Ravi was arrested. “On the complaint lodged by the family, we have arrested the accused and are investigating the matter. Foot steps indicate that someone had visited the room with mal-intentions but things will become clear once CCTV footages of the hospital are scanned,” said a senior police official investigating the case.
