A 24-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself and her six-month-old daughter from the fan at their residence in Dwarka on Monday. Her mother-in-law and husband have been detained for questioning.
When the police reached the spot they found the mother and daughter hanging from the same noose that created considerable suspicion over the suicide theory. Both the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the autopsy reports are awaited.
The deceased has been identified as Rajni (24) who married Rinku (26) in November 2011. Rajni
lived with her husband, daughter Trisha and in-laws at their two-storey building in Dwarka’s Kakrola village. Rinku supplies tobacco products to retailers and his father Suresh works at an apartment while Rinku’s mother, Vimla, runs a grocery shop on the ground floor of their house.
Parents of Rajni claimed that soon after their daughter’s marriage, her in-laws began demanding dowry worth Rs 2 lakh. When the victim’s parents were unable to fulfill the demand, her mother-in-law and husband began to harass her regularly.
According to the neighbours, on Monday morning, Rajni was seen washing clothes in the balcony. ‘We are investigating the case in all plausible angles to find out the exact cause of her death,’ a police official said. The case has been transferred to SDM who is further investigating the case.
