A 24-year-old chartered accountant (CA) committed suicide at his residence in east Delhi’s New Usmanpur area on late Sunday night accusing three friends for blackmailing him in his suicide note. The note has been recovered and the probe is underway, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Kumar, a CA working with a private firm in Noida. He was living with his parents and elder brother in east Delhi’s Ghonda area. Kumar’s father runs a garment shop in Gandhi Nagar area. Amar Singh, the deceased’s father told the police that for the past two days Kumar looked worried. When the family spoke to him about it, he had mentioned that his friends were troubling him for the past few days. However, he did not give the details of the matter and added that it would be resolved soon.
On Sunday night, the deceased’s mother went to his room to call him for dinner and found him hanging from the ceiling fan. She raised an alarm to inform other family members who later informed the police.
A team reached the spot and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead. A suicide note has been recovered from the room where he was found hanging. “It was a brief suicide note written in English. Dinesh has accused his three friends of blackmailing him with implicating him in a false case,” a senior police officer said. However, he did not mention the exact issue in the note, he added.
The police said they have registered a case of abetment of suicide against the three accused. Two of
them are also known properly to the deceased’s family. Police said they are yet to trace the three friends and interrogate them. Arrests would be made only after the role of the friends in the suicide is established, said the police.
