23-yr-old NE woman molested in N Delhi

The accused, Vikram Singh (29), has been arrested by the police and booked under section 354 of IPC (assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

He lives near the vegetable market at Malka Ganj and runs a small press, said a police official. As narrated by a police official, the victim, who hails from the Ukhrul district in Manipur, works at a private firm in Civil Lines area of north Delhi.

On her way back home on Tuesday night, she decided to buy some vegetables from the market. The accused then came closer and passed lewd remarks at her. Soon, he allegedly made a physical advance and tried to take advantage of the victim.

‘When the victim resisted, the accused also allegedly abused her physically and started intimidating her,’ said a police official. It was a crowded place and when the victim screamed for help, some locals came to her rescue. They got hold of the accused and handed him over to the two beat constables patrolling the area, the official added.

‘The accused was under the influence of alcohol and was barely able to talk,’ said the official. The police are investigating whether the accused was also stalking the victim.  ‘We are looking at stalking angle, but it can be confirmed only after investigation’, said an officer.

The victim was later dropped to her home safely by police officers.
