23-yr-old IT professional abducted in Ghaziabad

A 23-year-old female IT professional at Snapdeal was reportedly abducted from the area near the Vaishali Metro station in Ghaziabad on Wednesday night.

The girl, identified as Dipti Sarna, took the Delhi Metro from Gurgaon and got off at Vaishali as a part of her usual routine but did not reach her home in Kavi Nagar area. The police, after registering a case, have formed several teams to trace the girl but are yet to make any breakthrough.

According to her family members, she used to travel from Gurgaon to Vaishali in the Metro. On a regular day, Sarna would board an auto-rickshaw from there to go to Ghaziabad City bus stand, a distance of roughly eight kilometres, where her father would wait to pick her up. Like any other day, Sarna hired a shared auto-rickshaw on Wednesday as well. She left the Metro station around 8.30 pm and took a ‘shared’ auto-rickshaw along with three other passengers, including a woman.

After getting into the vehicle, she telephoned her father Narendra Sharma. After travelling a distance of around 3-4 km, the woman co-passenger was reportedly forced to get down. Sensing danger, Deepti called her father again and said the auto-rickshaw was taking her in the wrong direction. Her mobile phone was then switched off. Her father along with some political leaders contacted police and filed a complaint.

“Near the Mohan Nagar intersection, the other woman was forced to get off and the driver fled with the victim. We have started a massive search operation to trace her,” said Salman Patil, Superintendent of Police (city). Meanwhile, the police have reportedly detained an auto driver from Raj Nagar area but are yet to find a link in his involvement in Dipti’s kidnapping.

The police official said a case was registered and police have launched a combing operation in the area, but nothing was found. Kunal Bahl, the Snapdeal founder, in a tweet said the organisation is working with the police to help locate Sarna.
