“At least this time I expect the Navy to do the BoI honestly, unlike the earlier one in 1994,” said Anuradha Paldhe.
The High Court, which had earlier termed the death as “suspicious and mysterious”, had on June 7 ordered the Navy to conduct a fresh BoI into the incident. Paldhe said she had written to Parrikar last week on the issue. “I hope and sincerely believe that at least now wise counsel would prevail on the Indian Navy and they will hold fresh Board of Inquiry at the earliest as directed by the High Court,” the letter said.
Amar died on September 21, 1993, while jumping from a helicopter during an exercise off Kakinada. The postmortem report, however, did not specify the cause of death.
A native of Thane district, he had joined the Navy as a seaman. Paldhe said she had full faith in the law of the land.
“I won't die without knowing who were the real culprits behind Amar's death. Naval officials have themselves described Amar as a diver who was 'cut above others', and several court judgments also noted the mystery and negligence surrounding his death,” she said.
