23 trucks carrying illegal sand seized in Noida

In a major crackdown, the Air Force officials in Noida’s Sector 39 seized 23 trucks loaded with illegal sand on Sunday morning. The trucks were coming from Faridabad in Haryana and were going towards Greater Noida. Fearing arrest, the drivers and conductors fled from the spot leaving the vehicles behind.

According to the police, the trucks were passing through Noida when the Air Force officers got a tip off. They stopped the trucks for checking and found that they were loaded with illegal sand. They clarified that the mining was not done in Noida.

Dharmendra Chauhan, SHO, Sector 39 station said that the trucks were coming from Haryana and were carrying illegal sand. ‘The truck had stopped at the service lane of expressway as one of the trucks broke down. Because of the wide roads, the transporters and drivers fled away. There was no illegal mining in Noida. We have lodged a case of illegal mining and investigation is on,’ he added.

However, when asked why Air Force officials had to seize the trucks, he justified that they had received the information first and the place where the trucks were seized falls under Air Force.

In the recent past, there have been many cases of illegal mining in the district. To counter the menace, the Noida police along with district administration have formed special teams which are actively conducting raids along river beds to keep a check on illegal mining.
