22-yr-old fights for 20 mins in broad-daylight; no one comes to her rescue

In yet another incident that speaks volumes about society’s insensitiveness, Prerna Chauhan (22) fought with an auto driver on Thursday for 20 minutes, who attacked her with a sharp weapon in broad daylight here but no one intervened or attempted to rescue her.

BPO employee Prerna, a resident of Sector 22, was coming from City Centre Metro station in a shared auto with four others. She de-boarded at the Mamura Crossing and a heated debate ensued between auto-driver Shivram Yadav and Prerna over the fare which led to the auto-driver attacking her with a blade several times.

Yadav wanted Rs 10 as fare, claiming it has been increased, but Prerna was willing to pay Rs 5 only. Yadav was arrested later after police arrived at her phone call, an official said.

Surprisingly, the fist-fighting between the two continued for 20 minutes but no-passerby intervened to save the woman. Police said that the driver also tried to strangulate her, hit her on the neck with a blade but the woman resisted his attacks bravely.

She also vociferously attacked Yadav in retaliation. She also made a PCR call. The police reached the spot and arrested Yadav.
