22-yr-old DU student stabbed to death in Ambedkar Nagar area

A 22-year-old Delhi University student was stabbed to death, while his friend sustained severe injuries following a scuffle between two groups in the Ambedkar Nagar area of south east Delhi on Monday. Personal enmity is said to be the reason for the scuffle.

According to the police, they have arrested one of the accused, while two other juvenile accused have been apprehended. Police said that the victim has been identified as Pankaj Kashyap, a second year BA student of Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, who used to live with his family at Madangir. His friend Lekhraj is undergoing treatment for a stab wound in his thigh.

Lekhraj, who identified the assailants, has claimed that he, Pankaj and another friend Yajwender, were together near the Shiv Shakti Market when the incident took place at approximately 9.30 pm on Monday.

The three friends were on their way to Lekhraj’s garment shop in Shiv Shakti Market on Pankaj’s bike. The accused, who had been waiting near the market, forcefully stopped Pankaj’s motorcycle.

Police said that a heated argument ensued between the two groups and soon turned violent. Pankaj, Lekhraj and Yajwender were punched, abused and threatened with dire consequences by the accused. During the scuffle, one of the minors accused in the crime overpowered Pankaj, while another minor repeatedly stabbed him. Lekhraj was overpowered by Pradeep, one of the accused and was stabbed by a third minor in his left thigh. A fourth minor had overpowered Yajwender, but he managed to escape unhurt.

Hearing the sounds of the fight, several of the locals rushed to the spot. The accused, however, managed to flee, after threatening the onlookers. Lekhraj informed his aunt Kamlesh about the attack, and one of his relatives Chetram rushed to the spot, and made a call to the police control room. Kamlesh also reached the spot and made another call to the PCR room and informed the police about the grievous injuries suffered by Pankaj and Lekhraj.

Kamlesh rushed Pankaj and Lekhraj to Batra Hospital, where Pankaj was declared brought dead, while Lekhraj is undergoing treatment. 

Police has said that the accused, Pradeep, has a criminal history. He has told the police that the attack stemmed from 

personal enmity resulting from a six-month old altercation between the accused and victims.
