In yet another incident of assault reported inside the Tihar Jail premises, the face of a 21-year-old under-trial’s face was allegedly slashed with a blade by two inmates on Thursday afternoon.
The injured inmate, identified as Gulshan, was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where his condition is reported to be stable on Friday, said a police official.
Gulshan was reportedly arrested a few days ago in connection with a physical assault case registered at west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden police station.
The accused were identified as Balram and Sippy, with whom Gulshan allegedly entered into a confrontation, apparently over superiority, soon after arriving in the jail.
On Thursday, Gulshan was playing ludo with another inmate, Deepak, when the accused duo approached them. They allegedly started thrashing Gulshan and soon one of them pulled out a blade and attacked Gulshan. It was Deepak who raised an alarm and jail officials reached the spot.
“Thursday’s assault was stopped only after security officials at the jail intervened. Gulshan had lost consciousness by then,” said an official.
Gulshan’s statement was recorded after his condition was reported to be stable and a case has been registered at the Hari Nagar police station, the official added.
