2,000 power connections to be cut

Power distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Ltd has decided to disconnect power supply to around 2,000 households in bordering areas of east Delhi by Saturday as their jurisdiction falls under Uttar Pradesh.

The company had disconnected power supply to these households in April alleging that they got the connections based on questionable documents as the area falls in Uttar Pradesh. But following an intervention by Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, the supply was restored in May.

Khanna had also directed revenue department of the Delhi government to take up the matter with the Uttar Pradesh government and examine the issue thoroughly.

Sources said following a joint scrutiny by officials of Delhi and UP government, it has been found that out of around 2,300 premises, 2,091 have been found to be in Uttar Pradesh and the rest in Delhi. A detailed exercise in collaboration with UP revenue staff was conducted during April and June.
