2 sons, grandson arrested for double murder

An 88-year-old freedom fighter Hari Kishan and his 50-year-old daughter were smothered to death by their own close family members over a property dispute in Nimri village of Sarai Rohilla in North Delhi on Wednesday night. Police solved the case within 24 hours and have arrested the deceased’s two sons and a grandson. The accused have been identified as Ajeet Singh Verma (61), Vijay Ram Singh (58) and Vijay’s son, Vikas Verma (21).

On the morning of January 29 at around 10 am, Hari Kishan and his daughter Rajbala were discovered lying dead in their residence by Arvind, Verma’s youngest son who had come to visit them. He raised an alarm and informed the local police.

“We suspected property dispute as the motive. In 2009, Hari Kishan on being prodded by Arvind had filed multiple cases at the local Sarai Rohilla police station against his two elder brothers for assaulting their father. After questioning many family members and going through the CCTV footage of the area, the elder brothers were interrogated and based on the CCTV surveillance, the police team found that the trio accused were seen exiting from Hari Kishan’s house on late Wednesday night,” said Madhur Verma, DCP (North).

“During extensive interrogation, the accused admitted that they were angry with their father as he wanted to transfer their Shastri Nagar residence in Rajbala’s name. As Ajit and Vijay had their jewellery manufacturing shop in Shastri Nagar area and were working there, they waited for Arvind to leave their father’s house after which they went to the house and smothered Hari Kishan while he was lying on the bed and when Rajbala saw them, they murdered her as well. To avoid suspicion, Vikas boarded the Metro from Shastri Nagar Metro station while Ajit and Vijay rode back home to Saraswati Vihar in their scooty,” added the official.

Police have gathered evidence and is collecting more evidence to consolidate the case, said a senior police official.
