Delhi police today claimed to have busted two inter-state drug syndicates with the arrest of four persons, including two Nigerian nationals, and the recovery of 5.5kg heroin valued at Rs 13 crore on the international market.
The first gang was busted by the Special Cell of Delhi police with the arrest of Tamanna (30) and Mohd Qurban (21), both residents of Bawana. Three kilograms of heroin, with an approximate value of more than Rs 8 crore, was recovered from the duo.
‘There was information about drug trafficking by the syndicate. Specific information was received on Tuesday that a member of the syndicate had gone to Jharkhand to procure a big consignment of heroin and was returning to Delhi on the Malda Express train.
‘A team rushed to Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, from where the cops boarded the train and tried to trace the drug trafficker.
‘He was apprehended on Wednesday near New Delhi railway station and 2kg heroin was recovered from his possession. He was identified as Tamanna,’ said deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. During interrogation, Tamanna disclosed that he had gone to Jharkhand upon the directions of one Qurban to buy heroin from a contact in the Sahebganj district of the state.
