19-year-old Manipuri student attacked

A 19-year-old Manipuri student was beaten up by four-five unidentified men here when he resisted their robbery attempt, police said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday night in Mukherjee Nagar area when Cham Pamei, a student of NIIT, South Extension, had gone there to meet some of his friends.
Pamei received injuries on his head in the attack but is said to be out of danger.
‘The attacker fled from the spot after seeing a motorcycle rider passing by when they were trying to rob the victim. But, Pamei had received serious injuries by then. The motorcycle rider rushed him to Bara Hindu Rao hospital and called the police,’ said a senior police official.
Pamei has been residing in Kotla Mubarkpur area in south Delhi for the past couple of months. He, in his statement to the police, said that when we was walking near a bus stop, four-five unidentified miscreants stopped him, demanding his gold chain and wallet. ‘When Pamei tried to resist them, they dragged him and one of them hit him on his head with a blunt object from behind. All of them managed to escape,’ the official added.
‘We have registered a case and are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused persons. We have detained some youths in this connection but as of now no arrests have been made. We are investigating the case,’ said R S Krishnia, Joint Commissioner, Northern Range.

Nido Tania died on 30 January this year, a day after being beaten up mercilessly by some shopkeepers in Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi.
This year around, as many as 10 cases of attack, rape and robbery have occurred with North-east people in the national capital.
