An 18-year-old girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the room of a guest house at Ballimaran area near Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, on Wednesday.
Police suspect it to be a case of suicide; however, no suicide note was recovered from the room.
The guest house authorities informed police on Wednesday when the victim hadn’t opened the door since Wednesday afternoon even after repeated knocks by its staff. The victim had checked in at the guest house on Monday morning.
The hotel authorities informed police that the deceased had checked in with a man under the name Asim Barman. The man has not been seen since Tuesday.
The identity of the couple has been established from the documents found in their luggage. The deceased was identified as Ritu Saha (18) from Cooch Behar in West Bengal and her partner was identified as Bijoy Roy from Murshidabad in West Bengal, said the senior police official.
He further said a railway ticket was also recovered from the luggage, from where it came to be known that they had had reached Delhi on 22 August.
Police has launched a man hunt to nab Bijoy Roy. It seem like a suicide case as no visible injury marks are visible on victim’s body, said the police officer.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and parents of the deceased have been informed.
