18-yr-old arrested for alleged murder of minor girl

An 18-year-old man has been detained for the alleged murder of the minor girl, whose body was found in an open field in outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area on March 10, police said on Wednesday.

The accused was a neighbour of the girl’s, who was about to get married in two months and they were allegedly involved in an intimate relationship. “The name of the accused cannot be disclosed as the police have yet not verified if he is actually over 18 years of age. His documents and school records are being cross-checked for the purpose,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).

According to the police, the accused was waiting for the 17-year-old girl during wee hours of March 10, knowing that she would come there. He was reportedly unhappy with her scheduled marriage and they entered into an argument. He allegedly hit the girl first and left her there. He came back again within a few minutes and allegedly slit her throat. But she was still breathing when her relatives found her, but succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

The victim in this case, was also reported to be pregnant. However, this can be clearly ascertained only after the post-mortem report is ready, said Singh.

On Tuesday evening, the police had said that chances of the victim being sexually assaulted before allegedly being murdered are very less. However, the final call can be made only after the post-mortem report is obtained. If it happens to be so, sections of POCSO Act will be added to the existing FIR, Singh added.
