18 days on, boyfriend held for woman’s murder

With the arrest of a the victim’s boyfriend, the city police on Sunday claimed to have solved the murder of a girl, whose body was found near the DND park loop 18 days ago.

The arrested has been identified as Yogender Saini alias Rahul, an engineer working with a private company in Greater Noida, police said. According to the police, Saini had opposed to the victim’s relationship with another man.

The victim used to work with a private company at Okhla in Delhi. The police said duo were in a relationship for the past three years.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kiran S said the victim was avoiding Saini and talking to some other man for over the past one month prior to her death. This made Saini suspicious of his girlfriend, police said.

“Saini said that the victim had called him to Maharani Bagh on November 18. He picked her on his motorbike and went for dinner to Sector 18 in Noida. While on the DND Flyway, the victim was continuously busy on the phone, enraging Saini,” the SSP said.

“Saini brought her to a park near DND loop and asked her to show him her mobile phone,  but she resisted. A heated argument ensued between the two. Saini, in a fit of rage, strangled her to death with his shirt and disfigured her face with a heavy stone to conceal her identity,” the official said.

The SSP said Saini was arrested with the help of footage captured by CCTV cameras installed on the DND flyway.

“Five days after the incident, the victim’s parents had filed a missing complaint at the Sarita Vihar police station. The accused was arrested from Ghaziabad railway station,” the  official said.
