17-year-old killed; failed love affair suspected

Body of a 17-year-old girl was found lying in a pool of blood at an open field near her residence at outer Delhi’s Pappu Colony area on the wee hours of Tuesday.
The girl’s throat was slit by a sharp object and her body was reportedly found in a semi-nude state. Police have yet not ruled out probability of sexual assault in this case. It will be confirmed only by the post mortem report.
“A case of murder against unknown person was registered immediately at the Shahbad Dairy police station and investigation was taken up. Sections of POCSO Act will be added if sexual assault is proved,” said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer). By evening, the police questioned dozens of friends and relatives of the girl, who was about to get married in two months, and finally zeroed in on one individual, whose name was not disclosed. “The identified accused was known to her. From preliminary investigation, it seem like a case of failed love affair,” said a police source.
According to the police, the girl used to go out for fetching water early in the morning everyday.
On Tuesday, she left around 5.30 am and did not return home. Her relatives then started searching for her and one of them spotted the body in the open field, which she had to cross to fetch water.
