17 DIG promoted to IG rank in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government has promoted 17 police officers of the DIG rank to IG level after their names were cleared by Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) after a meeting held here on Thursday.

Home secretary JP Gupta said that the government held the meeting of DPC to fill 22 vacant posts of IGs. The committee cleared the names of 17 officers out of which 10 officers were of 1993 batch and 7 are of earlier batches.

The officers of earlier batches are Brij Raj, AK Panda, Kiran D Jadhav, Dawa Sherpa, SK Kaul, Amitabh Thakur and Jasweer Singh. Amongst the officers of 1993 batch who were promoted to IG rank are Sanjay Singhal, SVR Shirodkar, Sunil Kumar Gupta, Zaki Ahmed, KS Pratap Kumar, Rajiv Sabbarwal, Hari Ram Sharma, Vitul Kumar, Prem Prakash and Anil Kumar.

Gupta said another DPC would be held next week to fill 29 posts of DIGs. They will be filled by officers of 1997 and 1998 batches.

About postings of 61 officers, who were inducted to IPS cadre from PPS recently, JP Gupta, said that they would held a DPC in the first week of January to promote about 95 officers of deputy SP rank to additional SP rank after which they would get enough officers on all ranks to go ahead with their postings.

‘There is shortage of police officers. After these DPC meet we would have enough officers on the rank,’ the home secretary said.

Meanwhile, JP Gupta also informed that director general of police Ambrish Chandra Sharma had issued a circular through which he cleared the doubt about age for opening a History-Sheet. He claimed that the Court had ordered that History-Sheet of youths should not be opened in a hurry but it was a confusion that whom they deemed to be a ‘youth’.

JP Gupta said that through a circular issued DGP cleared that all those who were under 30-year of age should be deemed ‘youth’ for opening a history-sheet.
