16-yr-old alleges rape by neighbour in Vivek Vihar

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar on Thursday. The accused has been arrested, police said on Friday.
The victim lives with her family in a rented house and is a class 10 student in a nearby government school. Police said she stays with her mother and two brothers, but was alone at home, when she was raped on Thursday.
'The accused has been identified as Arvind, who is a driver by profession and well acquainted with the victim’s family,' a police officer said. Sources said the house, taken on rent by the victim’s family, belonged to Arvind’s brother-in-law. As he was good friends with the victim’s brothers, he gained easy entry into the house. Once inside, Arvind tried to get close to the victim, which she resisted.
'The accused then forced himself on the victim and raped her. Arvind fled from the house after threatening the victim with dire consequences if she spoke of the incident to anyone,' the officer said. But the victim narrated the incident to her mother when she returned home. The victim’s mother approached police and the girl’s statement was recorded. 'She was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where medical test confirmed rape,' the officer added.
