16 Dec gang rape: Delhi HC seeks response on bus owner’s bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday sought response from the police on a bail plea by Dinesh Yadav, the owner of the bus in which the 23-year-old girl was gang raped on 16 December, in a case of cheating and forgery.

Issuing notice to the police, Justice Mukta Gupta sought the response by 1 May on the bail plea of Yadav, 35, and also sought a status report by the next date of hearing.

Yadav, arrested since 2 January, sought bail on the ground of parity saying co-accused Rakam Singh has already been granted bail in the case. Police had registered a case of cheating and forgery under various sections of IPC against Yadav. They said he had submitted false information to the State Transport Department to get the registration certificate and the permit for the bus.

Challenging the trial court's 12 March order dismissing his bail petition, Yadav in his plea said he was in no way connected to the incident.

‘ACCUSED CAN MOVE TIHAR JAIL MAGISTRATE DIRECTLY’

A special court hearing the 16 December gang rape case said on Friday that the accused can move Tihar jail magistrate directly if they have a problem. This arose after their counsel alleged that prison authorities were deliberately not providing him a CD of the security arrangements there.

Accused Vinay Sharma and Akshay Singh's counsel AP Singh sought the court's permission to allow him to visit Tihar jail, so that he can see the security arrangements for his clients. The duo's counsel in his application said that security arrangements and shifting of the accused to Rohini jail from Tihar is also pending before the court. He also claimed that the jail authorities were deliberately not providing him the CD of the security arrangements in jail.  He further alleged that they have also not given him the recordings for the days during which Vinay was allegedly beaten by cell mates and suffered a hand fracture.
