140 govt officials under CVC scanner for alleged graft

The Central Vigilance Commission has recommended heavy penalisation of as many as 140 government servants, including 14 DDA and eight MCD officials for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

The CVC's recommendation for stern action includes 71 officials representing different banks of whom the highest of 26 are from State Bank of India, 20 from Punjab National Bank, nine from Punjab and Sind Bank, five from UCO Bank, four from Vijaya Bank, three from Corporation Bank and two each from Bank of India and Syndicate Bank.

Besides, 14 officials working with Delhi Development Authority, eight in Municipal Corporation of Delhi, seven each in Ministry of Railways and Bharat Coking Coal Limited, six in Hindustan Copper Limited and five in Employment Provident Fund Organisation have been recommended major penalty, the anti-corruption watchdog said in its performance report for February.

The CVC processed a total of 2,971 complaints (including 37 whistle blower complaints) during the month and sought investigation or factual report in 16 complaints from the concerned departments.

The Chief Technical Examiners organisation made a recovery of Rs 1.07 crore after examination of public procurement and other works being carried out by six departments.

The probity watchdog has directed all Chief Vigilance Officers of the ministries to organise seminars and other programmes to inculcate greater awareness among the people and government employees on anti-corruption measures.
