14-yr-old, grandfather mowed down by SUV in East Delhi

A 14-year-old boy and his grandfather were killed in a road accident after a speeding SUV hit their <g data-gr-id="22">scooty</g> from behind in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on Monday morning. The driver fled the spot leaving his vehicle at the crime scene. 

According to police, the victim has been identified as Rishabh, a Class VIII student and <g data-gr-id="23">Sulesh</g> Chand (65). Rishab lived with his parents in East Delhi’s Yojna Vihar whereas his grandfather lived in Krishna Nagar area. 

At the time of the incident, <g data-gr-id="30">Sulesh</g> was going to drop his grandson at his residence as Rishab used to spend his weekends with his grandfather. When they reached Ashoka Niketan at around 10.30 am, a white-coloured Toyota Fortuner hit their two-wheeler from behind.  

“Eyewitnesses told the police that after the car hit them, their <g data-gr-id="26">scooty</g> was dragged for several metres before coming to halt,” a police officer said. They were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where Rishab was declared dead on arrival whereas <g data-gr-id="27">Sulesh</g> underwent treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries few hours later.  

According to the official, the Fortuner car has been impounded by the police and a <g data-gr-id="24">man hunt</g> is on to nab the accused based on the registration number of the car. A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Anand Vihar police station. Police have also recovered a CCTV footage from the nearby areas.  

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and the reports are awaited.
