According to the police, on the intervening night of May 17 and 18, locals spotted a girl lying in a pool of blood near the Prahladpur railway tracks. Based on this they made a PCR call. Furthermore, the local police informed the aunt of the girl that their child has been found. On May 17, the day the 13-year-old girl went missing, her maternal aunt had filed a missing complaint. “On May 17, the minor girl had gone out with her aunt to get water near their house in the Gautampuri Colony in Badarpur area when she went missing. The minor girl, who is an orphan, has been living with her aunt and uncle who took care of her. She is also allegedly deaf and mute as well as mentally challenged,” said a senior police officer.
Police further said that she was taken to AIIMS where doctors confirmed sexual assault. Based on which a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. On Wednesday, cops of the South-east range arrested one man in connection with the case. According to the police, the doctors at AIIMS have stated that the condition of the 13-year-old to be critical. Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal visited the girl at AIIMS on Wednesday. Talking to reporters, Maliwal said: “The girl has been brutally raped and we are suspecting it to be a case of gang-rape. She is mentally challenged. She has severe injuries on her body. She has undergone a major surgery and according to doctors it will take her at least four months to recover. Her condition as of now is critical.”
The DCW has issued a notice to the Pul Prahladpur police station seeking to know why it did not inform the DCW about the rape “It is shocking that despite the Delhi High Court ruling which mandates informing the Crisis Intervention Cell (CIC) counsellor duly approved by the Commission, as soon as the complaint of sexual assault is received at the police station, but in this case the counsellor was not informed by the police. “The issue is that until the police informs the Commission about the rape, it cannot provide legal help and counselling to the victim along with any other special requirements,”Maliwal said.
