12-year-old accused of molesting younger kids at Barakhamba creche

Beware of sending your children to a  creche and believing that they are safe there in your absence. In a recent case a 12-year-old boy has been accused of sexually assaulting more than five children (both girls and boys) at a creche in the city. A case has been registered against the accused and the management of the creche (for negligence) that is allegedly run jointly by BSNL and MTNL.

The incident was reported to police on Monday night when a 5-year-old girl narrated her ordeal to her father, who works in a private firm in Gurgaon. According to the complainant (the child’s mother who is also a working professional), her daughter was assaulted by the older child while  she was at the Little Angel creche in the Barakhamba area. A joint complaint was lodged by two other parents against the accused.

On Monday morning when the victim's parents went to the creche to bring up the matter with the management, they allegedly paid no heed to their complaint, and instead of paying heed to their complaint, terminated the children’s admission to the creche. Meanwhile, another parent approached the victim’s parents informing them that their daughter had also faced the same ordeal.  An FIR has been registered at Barakhamba police station and the accused has been booked under the POCSO. S B S Tyagi, additional commissioner of police (New Delhi) said, 'We have registered a case on the basis of the complainant lodged by the two families and on Tuesday morning the statement of the victims were recorded before the magistrate of the local court.'

Speaking to Millennium Post, Arun Singh (name changed) the father of the 5-year-old victim said, 'Thank God! We are friendly with our children, or else the assault might have led to a major crime incident. My daughter told me how she was being harassed physically and mentally at the creche.'
The mother of a 4-year-old boy said, 'My son was being harassed by the boy for the past five days.'
Speaking of the creche, she said, ‘It had been started in 1998 for the families of BSNL, MTNL and PNT employees. But in 2001, they have opened the creche to the general public as the capacity was more than the number of admissions they were receiving. Seema Upadhya, the wife of the chairman of BSNL, is the president of the creche.’  Upadhya remained unavailable for comments despite repeated attempts to contact her.
