Before he became infamous and was branded a serial molester by several quarters of society, Sumit Kumar Singh was just a normal 17-year-old boy in school and had met with an accident and remained bedridden for two months.
Like all teenagers, he had copious amounts of energy but was stranded, until, he found his salvation in YouTube. The latest trends in the West back then had been several funny videos ranging from mundane to downright ridiculous, which eventually mutated to dangerous prank videos.
Sumit saw them all and eventually decided that he would also start his own YouTube channel and make prank videos, that would earn him fame and a lot of money, he thought. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ravindra Yadav: “He started the account in the name of Crazy Sumit one-and-a-half years ago. He got the idea of making prank videos and was encouraged by such platforms to do so. He thought that he could make a lot of money and has already made around 35-40 such videos.” Furthermore, the social engineering technology that was used to trace Sumit has also shown that he is just the tip of the iceberg with at least 12 such users having surfaced who have uploaded similar obscene videos. “One Lovekesh has uploaded videos where he runs towards several women and asks them the size of their boyfriend’s genitalia. Another user has asked several men to describe their sexual experiences with their girlfriends and have asked for lucid details before fleeing,” said a source in the Cyber Team, Crime Branch. The police have not taken any action against the 12 profiles. The Crime Branch has claimed that Sumit and his friends had made the prank videos as they were encouraged by YouTube and Google which awards videos that garner the maximum number of hits.
Sumit had also uploaded a video of a party thrown by YouTube in a hotel ‘38 Barracks’ located in Connaught Place. Such parties were being hosted by a company named Menaki Communication based in Gurgaon and Mumbai on behalf of YouTube and Google.
In December 2016, he planned to make videos involving kissing women and roped in Satyajeet Kadian to film the act. Kadian, who also owns a prank channel, ‘DC Prank’, has shot two prank videos for Sumit. The police are now planning to conduct investigations into the event management companies in a bid to assess their culpability in the case.
