There are about 1,100 vacant posts in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing multi-crore rupee cases, including coal blocks allocation scam, the government said on Wednesday, and maintained that the vacancies have not affected the agency’s work “adversely”.
Of its total sanctioned strength of 5,000, the actual strength is 3,899 and the number of vacancies are 1,101, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said in the Lok Sabha. The vacancies are at the top levels to the level of constables.
“The occurrence of vacancies and their filling up is an ongoing process. The number keeps on varying depending on the induction, promotion, retirement and repatriation of the officers.
With effective use and optimal deployment of existing personnel, the vacancies have not affected the performance of the CBI adversely,” he said. “The number of vacancies at various levels keeps changing from time to time. It is the endeavour of central government as well as the CBI to fill up vacant posts expeditiously," the MoS for Personnel said.
He said steps are being taken to fill the vacancies in the CBI. Director Generals of central armed police forces and chief secretaries of state governments have been requested by to spare officers of requisite seniority to join the CBI on deputation basis, he said.
