‘11, 348 children with special needs have no school to go’

In a recently concluded survey on inclusive education by Sarva Shikhsa Abhiyaan (SSA) in Delhi, it has been found that 11,348 students belonging to children with special needs (CWSN) category have no access to schools.

Bimal Kumar, who coordinated the survey, said, ‘To make the whole exercise meaningful, it is important that children with special needs are brought into the fold of mainstream formal education system, so as to enable them to receive quality education at par with the other children, but in an inclusive education set up.’

According to Udit Prakash, director of SSA, a special admission drive has been planned from 7 November to 15 December for bringing these children to the schools. nearer to the residence.’

Kumar also added that during this period all the resource teachers will motivate the parents, and guardians of the CWSN.

During survey, it was also found  out that most parents were unable to provide sufficient education to their children because they did not have stabile work and residence.

‘During this period all the resource teachers will also get their wards admitted to the nearby DoE, MCD, NDMC and DCB schools nearby to their residence and in the age-appropriate classes. And after getting the children admitted , the resource teachers will submit relevant information regarding the  name of the school and  class to SSA,’ Kumar added.
