1,000 Kendriya Vidyalaya students learn ‘asanas’ in summer break

When most students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) are enjoying their summer vacations, around 1,000 are busy learning various ‘asanas’ for the International Yoga Day. The students will perform during the mega event at Rajpath on June 21 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Given the fact that summer vacation of schoolchildren <g data-gr-id="21">are</g> on, inviting them to take part in Yoga Day was not an easy task. The schools have not forced any student to participate in the event. They have agreed to attend it on their own, after consulting with their parents,” sources in the HRD Ministry said.

They added: “The selected students are from Class V to XII. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has arranged yoga training session for students by professional trainers. The department will take care of their transportation, refreshment, uniform, etc.”

It’s worth mentioning that KVs are reopening on Monday, just a day after International Yoga Day. The 40-day-long summer break in KVs had started on May 5. There are over 1,000 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country. Some are also located in Moscow and Kathmandu. There are 43 KVs in Delhi and NCR, with 22 running with shifts programme. All schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
