1 killed, 5 injured in a pile-up on NH-24

One person was killed while five persons sustained severe injuries in a road accident on the NH-24. 

The accident resulted in a major pile-up that led to a massive traffic jam on the stretch. Meanwhile, the identity of a deceased pedestrian is yet to be established, said a senior police officer.

According to the police, at least five persons were severely injured after three cars piled up near the Akshardham temple late on Monday night.

“One of the cars, an office cab, overturned after hitting a divider. In order to save a pedestrian, the driver hit the divider. The three injured identified as Mukesh, Ishita and Neha, working as engineers in a Noida firm were heading towards Rohini when their office cab reached Patparganj,” said a senior police officer.

All the injured were rushed to a private hospital. The pile-up further led to a massive traffic jam on the stretch, said police.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 9.45 pm when a Tata Sumo car slowed down near the Akshardham flyover following which a Hyundai Santro car driving behind it rammed into the vehicle at a high speed which was followed by a Maruti Swift car.

Two women traveling in one of the cars were severely injured and the driver of the same vehicle was said to be in a critical condition. 

Police said that the injured were rushed to the hospital by the locals and a PCR team that had rushed to the spot after the incident. A probe has been initiated to find out the reason of the pile-up.
