Mahender Chand Ramola, the trader who was shot dead, had on several occasions led the police to criminals. It is interesting to note that Ramola had given the cops a very important tip-off in the Karkardooma Court firing case which led the cops to identify the role of Azim who had trained the juveniles who fired in the courtroom.
Sources said that Azim became a part of the plan to eliminate Ramola to take revenge since he was one of the accused in the Karkardooma Court firing incident in December 2015 in which a police constable, Ram Kumar, was shot dead while one of the under-trials Chenu Pehalwan was injured. This apart, Ramola had helped cops in busting a gambling racket run by one Sameer.
According to the police, on May 2, at around 10.15 pm, Ramola was dragged out of his office and shot by four unidentified persons.
Police said that as per the CCTV footage accessed by them from the nearby shops, out of the four culprits, two had come on a scooty while the other two had come on a motorcycle. After killing Ramola, they fled away and also took Ramola’s licensed pistol.
Police said that based on the technical surveillance and local informers, they got to know that after killing Ramola, all the four accused, Mohd Vasim, Azim, Sameer and Ashraf had gone to a person called Sharif’s house.
Highly-placed sources revealed that the elimination of Ramola was jointly-planned by Sharif, Sameer and Azim.Â
While the first two were anguished over Ramola’s revelations to cops about the gambling racket, Azim wanted to quench his thirst for revenge and thus joined hands with them.
Meanwhile, search operations are on to nab the other three accused, Azim, Sameer and Ashraf who are still absconding after the murder of the cloth trader.Â
