Will do our utmost to de-silt 247 drains: SDMC Mayor

New Delhi: SDMC Mayor Sunita Kangra on Friday said that the civic body will do its utmost to de-silt all its 247 drains before the onset of monsoon.

Chairing a meeting on cleaning of drains under SDMC, Smt. Kangra stated that the desilting is of paramount importance in order to overcome the breakdown of diseases, control breeding of the mosquitoes and maintain sanitation during rainy

season.

In the meeting attended by the senior most officers of the DEMS and sanitation department of the HQ and all four zonal officers of the department concerned, the Mayor reviewed the progress of desilting drains with more than 4 feet deep.

She added that the work is on and there has been no disruption during last few weeks.

She expressed confidence that the work will pick up its desired pace.

The SDMC drains are spread over an area of more than 160 kilometer.

The mayor was informed that the work has been completed in over 215 drains. It was also reported that two third of the work has been accomplished.

The drains with more than 4 feet deep are being cleaned by the engineering department whereas the cleaning of less deep drains is the responsibility of the

DEMS.

She asked the Department concerned to expedite the work as the cleaning of drains will also go a long way in the improvement of status of swatchchta.

She was also informed that there is no dearth of machines and manpower required in cleaning the drains. 21 Pumping Stations will become functional very soon.

The Mayor asked the engineers and officers to work in tandem and keep a close eye over the progress.

Further she asked the Department concerned to submit progress report after every two days in order to enable her to monitor the status and take and give appropriate timely instructions.
