Rekha Gupta clears slum housing & gig worker welfare plans at DUSIB meeting
New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday chaired the 35th board meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), clearing key proposals on slum rehabilitation, gig worker welfare and urban infrastructure, while reiterating the government’s focus on inclusive development.
Highlighting the broader vision, Gupta said, “Dignified housing, food and a better life for every needy citizen is our goal,” adding that efforts are underway to build a system that supports workers and vulnerable sections.
A major decision was the rollout of resting centres and public utility hubs for gig workers and labourers across the city. These facilities will be integrated with Atal Canteens to provide food, rest and essential services under one roof. “The aim is to make life easier for those who work tirelessly across the city,” she said, noting that the idea emerged from direct interactions with workers.
The Atal Canteen scheme will also be revamped, with 100 centres being reorganised and revised meal timings introduced, lunch from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm and dinner from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm.
On housing, the board approved allotment of EWS flats in Savda-Ghevra to 717 slum dwellers, including residents from Bhai Ram Camp, Masjid Camp and DID Camp. Financial assistance of Rs.1.12 lakh per beneficiary will be provided, while allottees will contribute Rs.30,000 towards maintenance. Infrastructure upgrades also received a push, including repair of 1,060 EWS flats in Sultanpuri and development works for 7,400 flats in Bhalswa. Several housing units in Dwarka Sector 16-B will also be made habitable.
In an administrative step to speed up execution, the financial powers of the DUSIB CEO were increased from Rs.3 crore to Rs.10 crore. Gupta stressed timely implementation, stating, “The goal is not just to roll out schemes, but to make sure they translate into real change on the ground.”
