NEW DELHI: An Ola cab driver along with two of his associates has been arrested for robbing unsuspecting passengers midway after they offered them lifts midway in Dwarka.
Police said that the kingpin of this gang is Pritam, whose Wagon R cab was attached with Ola. While his associates Ashish and Vijay also sat in the car posing as passengers.
In the intervening night of 14 and 15 May, an employee of a construction company in Gurugram boarded a cab at 00:45 am at MadhuVihar, Sector-2, Dwarka for going to Dwarka Morh.
Apart from the driver, two other persons were already sitting in the car. However, instead of going to Dwarka Mor, the driver changed the track midway and drove towards CNG Pump, Sector-14, Dwarka.
Just before the CNG Pump, the driver and his two accomplices who were already sitting in the cab pretending as co-passengers robbed him of his mobile phone, wrist watch and cash.
The trio fled in the cab after pushing him out of the cab.
"The trio faced paucity of money to fulfil their desire of prolific lifestyle. Hence, after careful planning, the trio began offering lift to stranded passengers at night in the cab. Ashish drove the cab while Pritam Vijay sat as co-passengers."
"After offering lift to unsuspecting passengers and travelling some distance, they waylaid and robbed them of money, mobile phones and other valuables. They have disclosed about their involvements in a few other incidents as well," said Anto Alphonse, DCP Dwarka.
