A youth shot at his father and elder sister from his pistol, over a property dispute at Shibnagar in Malda, under the jurisdiction of Farakka police station.

After the accused fled the spot, neighbours took the injured to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Police have started a probe and said 20-year-old Attarul Shekh shot his father twice from close range. His father Mainul received bullets injuries on his shoulder. Attarul’s elder sister Mehmuda tried to save Mainul, but also received a bullet wound in her hand.

“Recently, Mainul (55) decided to give all his property to his elder daughter. This angered Attarul and he decided to kill his father before he could give away the property,” said an investigating officer.

“Attarul bought a gun from the local market and planned with some of his friends to kill his father,” the officer added.

A team of investigators found a pistol and four rounds of cartridges on the roadside. “We believe the gun was used by the Attarul. He threw the gun roadside before escaping,” the officer added.

“We had no idea that Attarul could do this. He is an educated boy. I do not know how he could do this,” said Mehmuda.

Doctors, meanwhile, said, Mainul is battling for life. “It is difficult to say anything about Mainul,” said a doctor.
