Two body guards of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Jitendra Tiwary were mandhandled, allegedly by shopkeepers, during an anti-plastic drive in Burnpur Market area of Burdwan district on Sunday.

A district officer said the Mayor had an argument with shopkeepers as he asked them to discard plastic bags as a civic team led by him and district officials went round the market area of Burnpur.

During the verbal exchange Mayor's two bodyguards were manhandled as they stepped forward to form a security ring around him in the melee, the officer said. The Mayor later filed an FIR naming four shop keepers alleging the four had tried to stop civic authorities in discharging the duty by attacking them.
